Champion Pinot Noir – Vino Fino Wine Awards 2017
Gold Medal – New Zealand Organic Wine Awards 2018

Giesens Ridge Block vineyard in Marlborough is developing into a very special Pinot Noir site. Last year the 2013 Ridge Block Pinot Noir was awarded Champion Pinot Noir at the highly regarded International Wine and Spirit Competition in London (as well as a host of other awards). This 2014 is another blockbusting effort. There is something 'complete' about the wine. Enjoying a bottle recently I was impressed by the depth of flavour; the pure drinking pleasure; this has the X-factor. If you want an exceptional Pinot Noir experience, this wine is a great place to start.

Winery notes (2014 Vintage)
"With over three decades of Marlborough winemaking experience, the three Giesen brothers have come to know the region intimately, its best vineyards and its terroir. In 2008 they challenged our winemaking and viticulture teams to craft a collection of wines true to their vineyard, which spoke of their special place. Our Single Vineyard Selection was born in 2011. They are our icon wines, the best of the best. The journey of each wine starts in a Marlborough vineyard selected for its unique terroir and climate. They are then nurtured with meticulous hands-on viticulture to ensure fruit produces highly concentrated flavour. Our winemaking expertise then allows these wines to speak for themselves, their purity becoming a showcase of the land. We are proud to share our Single Vineyard Selection with you."

"A block, on a ridge, or a ridge on a block, one would assume. Incredible elevation in quality from Giesen here. As I understand, almost a separation in approach with this upper tier range. Understated perfume of red cherry, rose hip, Earl Grey tea, faint cedary spice. Satiny textured, so very fine, long, subtle power, well integrated oak and a fine trim of acidity. It’s a close your eyes and you know you’re drinking great pinot experience. Seriously good, structured pinot with a long long life ahead."

5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2017 (2014 Vintage)
"It is brightly expressed on the nose showing dark berry, violet and toasted almond characters with delightfully attractive charcuterie and warm spice aromas. The palate is concentrated and silky, brilliantly structured by fine/firm tannins. The wine is sturdy and persistent, and finishes expansive and delectable. At its best: now to 2022.

93/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2014 Vintage)
"Savoury perfume of twiggy-brambly notes, red cherry, strawberry, clove. Fine and chewy in the palate, a little understated, spicy, peppery, with good length and a graphite-mineral kind of feel too. Authority in subtle wine. It’s good."

92/100 Jamie Goode, January 2018 (2014 Vintage)
"There’s some iron/blood/iodine savouriness here. Some sweet cherry and plum fruit but also some fine herbal characters. A bit of black tea, too, with a balance between the sweetness and savouriness. Drinking very well now."

4 ½ Stars Yvonne Lorkin, March 2018 (2014 Vintage)
"This is a sleeping giant of a wine, newly released and stirring slowly. I love the ruby colour and aromas of blackberry bush, rosehip tea, wild cherry and cocoa. To drink, it’s gently unfurling, revealing forest floor and leafy lushness. Crushed red currants, violets and baking spices on the palate lead to vibrant, agile tannins and zesty length of flavour – meaning it’s great drinking now, but I suggest disciplining yourself and stashing some away for another 4-5 years. You’ll thank me."
