Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"From our China Terrace vineyard, located in the Bendigo subregion of Central Otago, this wine has a red fruited nature, complex and sweet fruited, with a savoury tannin profile.

At an altitude of 320m, this vineyard retains a coolness relative to Bendigo's natural warmth. This and the site's complex mix of soil, gives wines of fresh, bright complexity. This wine is complex and brooding with many years ahead of it."

5 Stars & 19.0/20 Raymond Chan, October 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Dark ruby-red colour with hints of garnet, lighter on the edge. The nose is voluminous with an array of aromatics, showing dark-red cherry and berry fruit along with dark and dried herbs, savoury whole bunch stalk complexities and lifted dark-red florals. The nose grows in depth and density with aeration unfolding oak elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate has full and deeply concentrated flavours of sweetly ripe black and dark-red cherry and berry fruit with nuances of raspberry liqueur, and a layering of complexing dark herbs and whole bunch stalk perfumes. The fruit is encased b plenty of fine-grained tannin extraction with integrated acidity. The flavours are carried by the structure to a long, sustained, grainy-textured finish. This is a fulsome Pinot Noir with an array of dark-red cherry and berry fruit with dark herb and whole bunch complexities on a well-structured palate. Hand-picked fruit, clones 777 and 667 from the 320 m ‘China Terrace’ vineyard, Bendigo, fermented with on average, 49% whole clusters to 14.0% alc. the wine aged 11 months in 30% new French oak."

4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"Estate-grown at altitude (320 metres above sea level) in the China Terrace Vineyard, at Bendigo, the 2016 vintage was hand-picked and matured for 11 months in French oak casks (23 per cent new). Deep and youthful in colour, it is a mouthfilling, smooth red, with concentrated, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, finely integrated oak, and impressive richness and complexity. Still very youthful, it's well worth cellaring; open 2020+."

94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, November 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Immediately intriguing bouquet with a complex message of mineral, ripe cherry and raspberry led fruit, some red apple and dark rose moments; noticeable mix of new and older barrel use. On the palate – dry, ripe plump red berry fruit flavours plus cherry and some plum, a little pepper spice then oak spice and flavour; youthful tannin bite and acidity to match, a wine in development with some integration needed over the next few years. Decant for service or best from 2019 through 2027."

94/100 Bob Campbell MW, December 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Quite a perfumed pinot noir with violet, red berry, plum, spice, thyme and nutty oak flavours. A taut, focused wine with surprising power evidenced by a very lengthy finish. The use of 50% whole-bunches in the ferment has added a sappy spice character and additional structure suggesting good cellaring potential, although it makes the wine a little tight and hard to read right now. Drink 2017 to 2023."

93/100 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2016 Vintage)
"The Bendigo-sourced 2016 China Terrace Pinot Noir features attractive floral and tea-like aromas, backed by wonderfully pure and direct black cherry fruit. It's medium to full-bodied, with enough dusty, savory tannins to warrant cellaring for another year or two."
