A new label for Vino Fino. We get shown plenty of new wines to try. Some impress; many don't. However this one really stood out for us and better still we managed to cut a very good price deal as well! From a relatively small vineyard located in the Gibbston Valley. This is quite a solid Pinot, with a dark garnet red colour and plenty of dark Central Otago fruit flavours – cherry and plum backed by good concentration on the palate. We think this is a great addition to our range and one that is worth seeking out.
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"Gibbston Back Road makes distinctive wine from a singular vineyard in the Gibbston Valley of New Zealand's Central Otago region. This is pinot noir at its finest, forged by a shared vision and confidence in a remarkable vineyard.
The Gibbston Back Road Pinot Noir, Deep plum with garnet hues. Fragrant with plums, blackberries, boysenberries, chocolate, rose petals, violets, spice and a hint of vanilla. Silky entry with ripe dark berries and spicy plum pudding. Round and mouth filling with fine grained tannins and a lovely balance with a complex and long red berry finish with a touch of oak char.
With minimal intervention, it is unmistakably Pinot Noir, with complexity and liveliness. This wine has a long life ahead of it. While the 2019 Gibbston Back Road is drinking beautifully now, we believe it will continue to develop for at least seven years."
