We first came across this wine a couple of years ago and since then it has gathered quite a following. Supply has sometimes been an issue but happily we have it back in stock again. Geografico's Pavo Nero is a blend of local Italian red varietals from multiple regions and vintages.
A blend of 4 grapes from four different regions in Italy: Sicily, Puglia, Abruzzo and Trentino. Although we don't know the exact blend, we think it includes Primitivo, Nero d'Avola, Montepulciano and Merlot. It is also a blend of different vintages. The result is a powerful, dark red wine with an intense nose with notes of ripe cherries, candied plums, mocha and tobacco and a powerful taste with a sultry, round mouthfeel. 20% of the wine has matured for 12 months in new French oak, giving the wine a fine tannin structure that is well balanced.
