Gold Medal – New Zealand International Wine Show 2018
The Doctors Riesling from Forrest Estate in Marlborough continues to pick up fans at break-neck speed which is no doubt helped along by the Gold Medals, Trophies and Five Star Cuisine Ratings that this wine has gained over the years. Being downright delicious probably helps a little too! The mix of perfectly balanced sweetness, full flavour and low alcohol (9%) has made this wine one of New Zealand's top selling Rieslings.
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Pristine, bright and fabulously expressed, the bouquet shows lime sorbet, Gala apple, mandarin and floral characters. The palate is juicy and lively with gorgeous fruit purity and fine texture, wonderfully complemented by elegant sweetness and mouth-watering acidity. Low in alcohol (9%), yet it is full of delicious juicy flavours. Style: Medium. At its best: now to 2028."
94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, November 2018 (2018 Vintage)
"Fragrant, floral and fruity bouquet with a core of mandarin, lime-flower and green apple. A distinctive wet stone mineral layer some tangerine & honeysuckle. Off-dry, generous in weight and texture with an almost electric sting to the acidity accentuating the and balancing the sweetness. Beautifully balanced, lengthy and complex. Drink now and through 2026."
NZIWS (2018 Vintage)
"A hint of pepper infuses the lime-centric bouquet and dances lightly among the juicy flavours of heritage apples, tropical guava, banana, passionfruit and lime. A delightfully refreshing, lower alcohol style."
17.5/20 Joelle Thomson, June 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"John Forrest is one of the doctors and his wife Brigid is the other one behind this low alcohol Riesling, which contains 9% alcohol and enough residual sugar from the grapes to fit firmly in the sweet category. It’s light bodied and balanced by high acidity (a hallmark of Riesling), so it tastes refreshing, crisp and long on the finish. History shows it ages well too, moving into concentrated flavours of lime and peach."
