Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Pahi Vineyard, situated on Te Muna Road is a combination of clones 114, 115, Pommard, 667 and Abel, giving a diverse array of flavours and Pinot noir expression. Part of the Martinborough Terrace, the site possesses the same alluvial, free draining gravel soils which has made Martinborough famous. Planted in 2003 these vines have adequate age, considered by Escarpment to give superior quality fruit.

This is an outstanding example of classic Pinot noir. It has bright red fruits and violets with a fine acid line and soft silky tannin. It will continue to develop for up to 15 years and will always be a wonderful complement to any game meat."

5 Stars & 96/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, April 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"Silken-textured pinot noir with dense, compote-like berry/cherry/cassis intensity that lingers well after the wine has been tasted. Nicely structured with a lingering finish. Nuanced wine with potential."

94/100 David Walker Bell, WineFolio.co.nz, July 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"You’ll find the Pahi Vineyard on Te Muna Road adjacent to the Escarpment Vineyard, with the same alluvial, free-draining gravel soils that this sub-region is known for. A hugely aromatic perfume with a spicy but light touch of red cherry, cranberry, cinnamon and red peppercorns. Medium-bodied in the palate, silky and glossy – not just the texture, but the tannins too. Again, I see charcuterie and savoury elements develop, but the overlying picture here is finesse, framing a flush of fruit and leaving a suggestion of plumpness. A well-articulated expression."

Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, July 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"An enticing fragrance of fresh dark cherries and dried herbs, plum and sweet wood with a light smoke touch. There’s a gentle perfume and floral frame. On the palate firm touch with a core of ripe dark berried fruits for contrast. There’s some subtle power with tannins and acidity framing the wine nicely and a core of fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. Firm and dry, lengthy and well made, I feel this wine needs some cellar time to complete its harmony. Best drinking from 2025 through 2032+."
