New release, reviews for the 2015 vintage below…

Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"The 2015 Syrah is made from grapes off our Gimblett, Te Awanga and Triangle Vineyards. The vine clones are Mass Selection (46%), 470 (36%), 877 (9%) and Chave (8%) and were co-fermented with 1% of Viognier. It has aromas of blackberry and anise with ripe, juicy black fruits and typical spice and pepper on the palate. The wine is luscious and elegant, a true Elephant Hill Syrah."

5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, June 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"A wonderful expression of the variety, the inviting bouquet shows dark plum, blueberry compote, violet, game and black olive characters with a hint of toasted almond complexity. The palate is concentrated and fleshy, and delivers excellent fruit purity and silky texture, leading to a superbly long, velvety finish. Generous and flavoursome, and offers terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2025."

5 Stars & 19.0-/20 Raymond Chan, June 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Full, dark, deep purple-hued black-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is elegant and refined with intense and penetrating aromas of ripe blackberry fruit entwined with Asian spices and liquorice, revealing an amalgam of violet florals and black pepper. The aromatics grow in volume with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegantly proportioned with rich and succulently ripe flavours of blackberries, dark raspberries and dark-red plum fruit melded with spice and liquorice notes. The fruit is lifted by violet floral perfumes and black pepper hints. The palate has excellent depth and is supported by very fine-grained tannin extraction with balanced acidity. This has good vitality and a positive drive carrying the wine to a long and sustained, beautifully elegant, aromatic finish. This is an elegant and refined Syrah with beautifully aromatic blackberry, dark raspberry and plum fruit melded with liquorice, spices, floral and peppery detail on a vibrant, fine-structured palate. Match with lamb, beef, venison and game meat over the next 6-7+ years. A blend of 46% MS, 36% 470, 9% clone 877 and 8% Chave clone fruit from the company’s Gimblett, Te Awanga and Triangle vineyards, fully destemmed and co-fermented with 1% Viognier as whole clusters to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 13 months in 30% new French oak, then given a further 12 months on lees."

4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"The youthful 2015 vintage was grown in the Gimblett Gravels, at Te Awanga and in the Bridge Pa Triangle, blended with Viognier (1 per cent), and matured for 13 months in French oak casks (30 per cent new). Deeply coloured, it is fragrant and full-bodied, with deep, ripe plum and black-pepper flavours, fresh and supple, and a long, spicy finish. Finely structured, with good density, it should be at its best 2019+.

Sue Courtney,, November 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Bright blackberry red in the glass. The bouquet is aromatic and spicy with hints of smoked prosciutto and brambles. Brimming with luscious berry fruit in the palate that’s characterised by fine dry tannins, it’s mouthfilling and concentrated with toasted aromatic spices – more exotically spicy than peppery – with succulent redcurrant and mulberry fruit and a very long fine finish. Power with elegance."

94/100 IWC 2018 (2015 Vintage)
"Earthy, new leather, slated, mustard seed and herbaceous notes. Gritty tannins."
