Tasting this with winemaker Steve Skinner at our Elephant Hill tasting, we were reminded just how deliciously drinkable and moreish Le Phant is. A juicy, round and mouthfilling blend that shows Hawkes Bay red at its accessible best.

5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, February 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"A gorgeous merlot, cabernet sauvignon and syrah blend, the fragrant nose shows blackcurrant, dark plum, cedar and mixed spice aromas with hints of cigar and vanilla notes. The palate is beautifully weighted and rounded, and offers silky mouthfeel backed by fine, chalky tannins. Wonderful balance and generosity. At its best: now to 2020."

4 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
The 2015 vintage is a deeply coloured, Merlot-based red (70 per cent), with minor portions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Hand-picked in the Gimblett Gravels, at Te Awanga and in the Bridge Pa Triangle, it was oak-aged for a year. Fragrant and fresh, with generous, ripe blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, tinged with sweet oak, it has a solid foundation of tannin, and nutty, savoury notes adding complexity. Enjoyable young, it's also well worth cellaring.

4 Stars & 18.0/20 Raymond Chan, March 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Full, very dark, black-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is softly full and gently concentrated with aromas of dark-red and black plums along with subtle notes of redcurrants and blackcurrants, along with an amalgam of earth and spices, Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich and succulent flavours of dark-red and black plums entwined with notes of curranty fruit, herbs and earth, unfolding liquorice and spice elements. The fruit sweetness is balanced by finem grainy tannin structure, with good underlying acidity providing drive and line. The wine carries positively to a sustained finish of black plums with growing grip. This is a rich dark-red and black plum fruited red blend with grainy tannin structure and linearity. Match with barbecued and roasted red meats over the next 5-6+ years. A blend of 69% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah, 6% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec from the company’s Gimblett, Te Awanga and Triangle vineyards, fermented to 13.5% alc. and aged 12 months in 15% new oak."

4 Stars & Best Buy Cuisine NZ Bordeaux Blends Tasting, June 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"A soft Hawke’s Bay merlot blend made for easy drinking at a good price. Try it with fuss-free food like barbecue ribs. Plum, spice and lightly toasty aromas meet the nose, and ripe flavours are carried nicely by well focused, soft tannins."
