Produced from 100% Syrah vines averaging more than 40 years old which are located on the best red clay soils close to the Hermitage hill.
Gilles took over the running of this estate in 1996. With a history of winegrowing spanning four generations, his aim was to realise the potential of the then 25-year-old vines (40-years-old in 2011). He immediately used only natural fertilisers and reduced yields to give a richer concentration of fruit and quality. A new winery was built into the ground to allow the wines to be moved delicately by gravity. Gilles’ first vintage was so good that he won a gold medal at the Mâcon Fair, and his reputation has grown ever since, with accolades from Decanter, Wine International, Robert Parker and Wine Spectator.
Dark red in hue with a fine appearance. Delicately floral on the nose with a dusting of cocoa. The taste offers up initial savoury earthy notes with fresh acidity, a touch of pepper, subtle cherry and blueberry fruit, fine youthful tannins and well integrated oak with perhaps a hint of mint on the lingering juicy finish.
