Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Water races were used by gold miners to carry water and are an iconic part of the Central Otago landscape, following the contours of the hills, often over many miles. Many are still in use today helping transform a dry landscape into useable farmland. Domain Road Vineyard, like many others, relies on the industry of early settlers and their water races to produce its wines, including our Dry Riesling.
Pale lime with clear hues, our Water Race Riesling is a dry style wine with bright acidity balanced with good fruit sweetness. Fragrant with lemon, lime, musk, orange zest and apple blossom on the nose. Intense and juicy with lime, tangelo zest, and apricot showing on the palate. A beautifully balanced wine, with good acidity, mineralogy and texture leading to a long ripe citrus finish. "
5 Stars & 94/100, Candice Chow Raymond Chan Wine Reviews, August 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"Bright, even, pale straw yellow. This elegant bouquet has penetrating lime, grapefruit, apple and jasmine aromas. Medium-bodied, aromas of apple leading with lime, grapefruit and zest, jasmine uplifts and lingers with a hint of honey. The wine is beautifully balanced, with residual sweetness rounding the acid and providing a soft edge. Zesty spice and jasmine added layers and interest. This Dry Riesling is attractive and beautifully balanced with an appetising palate. Match with salmon cream cheese pate and pork rillette over the next 6+ years. Fruit from Defiance Vineyard on Felton Road, whole bunch pressed, fermented in stainless to 12.5% alc, 7.5g/l RS."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim Wine Orbit, August 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"This is immediately appealing on the nose with lemon curd, orange peel, subtle spice and toasty notes, leading to a finely flowing palate that's juicy and persistent. Delightfully textured and elegantly structured by bright acidity, finishing long and delectable. From the Bannockburn district. At its best: now to 2031."
