Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Our Pinot Noir vines grow on two rare Bannockburn sites untouched by miners. For almost 100 years fruit was grown on the Domain Road site, peaches, pears and apples originally and then Apricots at a later stage. It has been said that if you can grow Apricots then you can also grow great Pinot Noir and this has certainly been the case at Domain Road. Our second vineyard, Defiance on Felton Road is considered to be one of the prime sites in this well known location. Our Pinot Noir vines from these two sites deliver a complexity that reflect the unique location of the vineyards.
Harvested between 29th March and 13th April 2016, the fruit was predominantly de-stemmed (4% was whole bunch pressed) into tanks for fermentation before being transferred to French oak barriques (27% new) to age for ten months.
With dark purple hues, this wine is wonderfully complex. Fragrant aromas of blackcurrant, cherry and violets, with a hint of spice and vanilla, are complemented by rich dark fruit, black plum and ripe blackberry, on the palate. A complex, concentrated wine with ample fine tannins and a hint of chocolate and spice in its tantalisingly long finish."
94/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2016 Vintage)
"There's no mistaking the bouquet and origin of this wine – with savoury wild thyme and dried herb scents leading to aromas of oak, dark cherry and dried raspberry. On the palate – dry, textured, tense, fruity and firm."
94/100 Jamie Goode, March 2019 (2016 Vintage)
"This is fresh and supple with bright red cherry and raspberry fruit. There’s good acidity and some nice tannic structure. Bright and red fruited, this has lovely focus. There’s a bite on the finish, too. Very stylish and quite serious, with nice grip and potential for development."
