Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"The fruit was hand harvested on 23rd & 25th Match 2022 from our Defiance Vineyard on Felton Road. The fruit was whole bunch pressed. The resulting juice was cold settled for two days before racking and inoculating with selected wine yeasts to undergo fermentation in a stainless steel tank (70%) and older oak barrels (30%). Fermentation was stopped to retain some residual sweetness.
The colour of pale lemon straw, with clear hues in the glass our Pinot Gris has a lush texture. Aromas of red apple, white peach, pear, white melon with a hint of citrus blossom are detected on the nose. This is followed by a lush, full entry of lemon curd, nashi pear, apricot and lemon zest. Excellent balance, with layers of complexity leading to a concentrated pear and citrus finish."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2022 Vintage)
"Delicious in its youth, the 2022 vintage of this single-vineyard wine was mostly handled in tanks; 30 per cent of the blend was fermented in seasoned French oak barrels. Bright, light lemon/green, it is richly scented and mouthfilling, very fresh and vibrant, with strong, ripe peach, pear, lychee and spice flavours, showing a distinct touch of complexity, and an off-dry (10 grams/litre of residual sugar), very harmonious finish. Drink now or cellar."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2022 (2022 Vintage)
"Stylish and elegant, the wine shows poached pear, rockmelon, subtle spice and rich floral aromas on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate offering fleshy texture and silky flow. Refined and mouthfilling at the same time, offering delightful drinking. At its best: now to 2029."
Rated Very Good to Excellent, Mark Henderson, Otago Daily Times (2022 Vintage)
"Attractive nose, pear, pastry dough, nutty elements, wisps of apple skin with aeration. Supple and viscous, an oily richness to this initially, the acid backbone becomes apparent later. Nice depth, brimming with flavour, a touch of residual sugar evident, a citrusy note providing contrast. Open and raring to go and could be a bit of a crowd pleaser."
