Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"2/3 Mendoza, 1/3 B95 clones hand-picked from our home vineyard at 5 tonnes/ha (30hl/ha), from vines dating back to 1981. Fruit is whole bunch pressed and transferred directly to French oak barrels (15% new) and left to undergo indigenous primary and secondary malolactic fermentations for 18 months in barrel. Bottled without fining and with only minimal filtration.

A citrus driven chardonnay with complex flinty, toasty and biscuit notes derived from extended barrel aging on full solids. Vibrant, lively acidity delivers a focused palate which unfurls and exposes intense citrus flavours with an underlying brioche and hazelnut influence."

5 Stars & 96/100 Bob Campbell MW (2016 Vintage)
"Ripe, stylish and quite complex chardonnay with grapefruit, white peach, nectarine, bran biscuit and subtle mineral and oyster shell flavours. An elegant and appealing wine with an ethereal texture and lengthy finish. Delicious now but might even get a little better with a few years bottle age."

5 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"This classy, single-vineyard wine is grown on the south side of the Wairau Valley, hand-picked, fermented and matured for 18 to 20 months in French oak barriques (15 to 25 per cent new), and given a full, softening malolactic fermentation. Still a baby, the powerful 2016 vintage is bright, light lemon/green, with intense grapefruit-like flavours, a subtle seasoning of oak, a minerally thread, and a crisp, long, very harmonious finish. Best drinking 2021. Certified organic."

95/100 Nick Stock, (2016 Vintage)
"This is beautifully curated complexity, applied to very bright, powerful and concentrated chardonnay fruit. White peaches and grilled hazelnuts lead to a palate with a subtly creamy array of grilled-peach and hazelnut-praline flavours to close. Delicious. Drink now. Screw cap."

95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, December 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Very distinctive and engaging bouquet with powerful barrel influences, contrasting core of fruit and stony rocky mineral layers. Equally engaging on the palate with flavours of barrel, grapefruit, green pear, apple and lees derived barrel-ferment flavours. Plenty of acidity, weight and intensity. A new classic with memorable textures, flavours and finish. Drink now and through 2024."

18.5/20 Joelle Thomson, February 2019 (2016 Vintage)
"This wine marks a milestone for Dog Point Vineyard wines, all of which are now certified fully organic with BioGro New Zealand. This follows a lengthy process of converting 100% of the company vineyards to organics, which began in 2009. Now, every back label certifies this exacting production process. And so to the wine. This is one of my top South Island Chardonnays every year. Full-bodied, intense and lingering. Creamy flavours are balanced by vibrant acidity, which shines through in grapefruit, ripe lemon and hints of mandarin. A delicious wine from a top producer."

5 Stars & 19.0/20 (95) Raymond Chan, October 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Bright, full, pale golden-yellow colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is full with rich, ripe and rounded aromas of white stonefruits and citrus fruits entwined with a complex layer of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak in an amalgam of gunflint and mineral reductive complexities. This has richness and breadth and is well-proportioned. Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich, mouthfilling flavours of white and yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits melded with a layering of creamy and nutty oak and flinty, minerally reductive complexities, unfolding a little smoke and toast. The fruit richness is balanced by refreshing acidity lending the palate brightness and energy. The wine carries smoothly to a rich, lingering finish. This is a rich, mouthfilling Chardonnay with a complex amalgam of stonefruits, creamy and nutty oak and gunflinty, minerally reduction on a bright, vibrant palate. Match with roasted and grilled pork and veal over the next 4+ years. 66% Mendoza and 34% clone 95 fruit from the ‘Home’ vineyard, fully indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged on lees for 18 months in 15% new oak, undergoing 100% MLF. Certified BioGro organic."
