As we keep saying, we in Canterbury are blessed to be part of such a great wine producing area that is the Waipara sub-region. This new release Deliverance Pinot Noir from the Muddy Water team offers up plenty of juicy red fruits and great drinking pleasure.
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"Light ruby red in colour, this Pinot Noir reveals layered aromas in the glass of red summer fruit, florals and spice. The palate is juicy and bright, with soft tannins and a long flavoursome finish.
North Canterbury grows some of New Zealand’s most coveted wine grapes. They sourced the Pinot Noir grapes from two North Canterbury vineyards. These were predominantly from Dijon clones, vines are spur-pruned and carefully managed to allow dappled light into the fruit zone, which assists with retention of natural acid and delicate aromatics.
The fruit was ripe and flavoursome with thicker than usual skins in this 2019 vintage, due to the dry seasonal conditions. They therefore handled the fruit very gently to extract in a subtle way. The fruit was wild fermented in open top vats and allowed about one month macerating, before they slowly pressed the new wine to French oak barrels. The wine matured for 9 months in barrels, going through natural MLF over the warmer months, before they blended ready for bottling."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Attractively fruited and elegantly complex, the wine shows dark cherry, anise, toasted nut and subtle game characters on the nose, followed by a beautifully rounded palate that's supple and fleshy. It's sweetly fruited and finely textured with lovely savoury undertones, making it splendidly appealing. At its best: now to 2023."
90/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, August 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Fresh, vibrant entry-level pinot noir with a mix of dark berry, raspberry, floral and fresh herb fruit flavours. High-energy wine with bright, youthful flavours. A stylish wine with character. Offers good value at this price."
