Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Our Gimblett Gravels Merlot is carefully selected from parcels of merlot in our Gimblett Gravels Vineyard. The warm, gravelly soils are perfect for the production of Merlot and the moderate heat allows the wine to retain freshness and structure without showing over-ripe characters.

Deep garnet with youthful rim. Quintessential Merlot aromatics of dark plum along with dark rose and the faintest hint of dried pine needles. Classically structured palate with a core of ripe red fruits integrated with fine dusty tannins for an elegant long finish."

Reviews for the 2014 Vintage below…

5 Stars & 18.5+/20 Raymond Chan, March 2016 (2014 Vintage)
"Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim, and youthful in appearance. This has a well-packed and densely concentrated nose of vibrantly aromatic dark red and black plums layered with dark redcurrant and fresh herbal nuances, lifted by dark red florals. Medium-bodied, deep and concentrated, softly rich and ripe flavours of dark plums, currants and herbs form a juicy and sweet core. The mouthfeel is enlivened by bright, ripe acidity and the wine follows a supple line with fine-grained tannins. The wine is very well-balanced with textural linearity and vitality, and carries to a finely concentrated, lingering finish of plums and redcurrants. This is a rich, ripe, plummy Merlot with soft redcurrant notes and a concentrated, but supple palate. Match with lamb, beef, venison and Mediterranean fare over the next 6-7+ years. A blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc fermented to 13.4% alc., the wine aged 17 months in 27% new French oak barriques."

5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit (2014 Vintage)
"Beautifully styled, superbly ripe and elegantly poised, this is a gorgeous rendition of the variety showing dark plum, violet, spice and cedar characters with subtle game complexity. The palate is concentrated and silky, and offers loads of appealing flavours, framed by fine, chalky tannins. Already a charmer, but promises to develop magnificently. At its best: 2017 to 2024."

4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper (2014 Vintage)
"Still very youthful, the 2014 vintage is a marriage of Merlot (88 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (12 per cent), harvested (30 per cent by hand) at 23.5 brix and matured for 17 months in oak barriques (27 per cent new). Full-coloured, it is mouthfilling, with ripe, plummy, spicy flavours, gentle tannins, and excellent complexity and concentration. A generous, well-structured red with obvious potential, it should be at its best 2018+."
