Our craft beer expert, James, has put together a selection of six his favourite brews in a gift box to take the stress out of your gifting ideas. Sure to please all craft beer lovers.

1) Eagle Pilsner – Champion New Zealand Lager 2017
Based on a traditional malt base, but brought into the modern era with the generous addition of Nelson Sauvin and Citra hops. Aromas of mashed grapes and lychee a medium body full of fruit and distinct Pilsner finish which leaves the full flavour lingering.

2) 8 Wired Hoppy Trails
8 Wired are donating $1 per litre sold to Trail Fund NZ. A non-profit organisation who support the development and maintenance of public mountain bike tracks in NZ. Exuding big tropical fruit and citrus notes and finishing crisp and clean. A thirst-quenching hoppy pale ale and at 5% ABV this is a ripper all-day IPA

3) Liberty Prohibition Porter 2018
New Zealand has a new favourite beer! Liberty Prohibition Porter 2018 has picked up a Gold Medal at the Brewers Guild Awards 2018 and back in August it took out the No.1 Peoples Choice at Beervana 2018.

Beer scribe Michael Donaldson says…
"New Zealand has a new favourite beer but you'll have to be quick to get your hands on some. Liberty Brewing's Prohibition Porter this month rose to No 1 on Untappd's list of New Zealand's top-rated beers. This is the second vintage of Prohibition Porter – the first was aged in old Wild Turkey barrels and this one is aged in Jack Daniels barrels for 9 months. The beer is bottled into imported black glass bottles designed to give a shelf life of 25 years!"

4) McLeods Bonnie 2018
This year's iteration of Bonnie Wild Ale – part of our Smugglers Bay Collection – is as exciting and delicious as its 2017 predecessor. Tarnished orange with a white head and sustained lacing in the glass. Hop-forward, bursting with bright clementine and bitter grapefruit on the nose, there's a hint of funk and esters from the brettanomyces, yet it drinks smooth and clean with a touch of acidity and subtle bitterness. Finish is dry and tart with lingering hops, refreshing, delicious and moreish.

5) Epic Animal
The 7th Beer in our Hysteria series of beers is another IPA based on the Armageddon recipe! Just like the song from the album that has inspired this series of beers. Animal has been in gestation for three years. Since the beginning, this seemed like a cool name for a beer, but it became difficult to execute. Trying again and again to find perfection. Now released for the live concert by the band that started this all, so many years ago. We have let the Simcoe hops Run Riot and be the hero of this IPA. As you would expect from this modified Armageddon IPA recipe, this is a typical hoppy Epic IPA, which is delicious, resinous and fruity. This beer displays citrus and pine, along with a backed off bitterness & long hop resin finish.

6) Garage Project Party & Bullsh*t
One of the OG’s of this style in NZ, by now I would imagine you are familiar with the haze craze that seems to be sweeping the country. East Coast anthem IPA – a big ol' hop poppa of a beer, packing in intense mango, tropical fruit hit from US big guns, Simcoe and Mosaic. It's just bigger and juicier than it's bitter West Coast counterpart, like sippin' hazy hop nectar from a can. It's all good. Mango, pineapple and guava juice with no apple base needed. Exceptionally drinkable and just really fun to have in the house, wherever that may be.
