Coopers Creek produce an excellent range of Chardonnays. This was added to their range a few years back when they didn't have enough fruit to produce the Limeworks. Such was its success that is has been made ever since. It is a style that has plenty of ripe fruit flavours and the mix of French and American oak adds vanillin spiciness. Great value and drinking!
Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Our 2016 Plainsman SV Chardonnay is based on a single parcel of fruit from a block in Koropiko. For the fourth year in a row the weather gods smiled upon Hawkes Bay and we were able to harvest our fruit in magnificent condition. Post harvesting, pressing and settling, the juice was run off to seasoned American and French oak for fermentation and ageing. Most barrels also went through a secondary malolactic fermentation.
Not heavy, but with great depth of flavour, it shows maturity balancing sweet citrus and grapefruit aromas with delicate oak and nut overtones."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, February 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"A delightful chardonnay; the beautifully fragrant bouquet shows white nectarine, fig, vanilla and nougat characters with subtle hazelnut complexity. It is wonderfully weighted and fleshy on the palate, delivering plenty of delectable fruit flavours and silky texture, finishing superbly long and smooth. At its best: now to 2020."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"Drinking well from now onwards, the very harmonious 2016 vintage was grown on the Heretaunga Plains and barrel-fermented. Bright, light lemon/green, it is full-bodied, with ripe stone-fruit flavours seasoned with oak, good concentration and a buttery, smooth finish."
