57% Merlot & 43% Malbec
The Coopers Creek Select Vineyards Merlot Malbec is a nicely maturing Bordeaux variety blend from the excellent 2015 vintage. Dark and inviting, the wine is now taking on some nice savoury characters and will continue to develop for at last another 3 – 4 years. A very satisfying red for the upcoming months.
Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"The colours of the 2015 Hawkes Bay wines are superb. A deep core running out to a bright purple rim. The Merlot provides lovely black doris plum aromas and the Malbec adds delicious ‘wild berry’ undertones. At bottling this wine was full of youthful vitality. Firm yet fine-grained tannins balanced by loads of juicy black fruit in the mid palate."

"Winemaker Simon Nunns loves working with Hawke’s Bay malbec, and made great use of it in this dark, juicy ‘M & M’ blend. Stillness and depth mark the fruit presence, which resonates with dark plum and an endearing herbal twist. Soft ripe tannins provide direction and flow. The perfect wine for a pepperoni pizza."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"The attractive 2015 vintage is a blend of Gimblett Gravels Merlot and Malbec grown in the Bridge Pa Triangle, barrel-matured. Full-coloured, with a fresh, plummy bouquet, it is a mouthfilling, elegant, tightly structured red, with very generous, ripe blackcurrant, plum and dark chocolate flavours, gently seasoned with oak, and a lasting finish. Best drinking 2019+."
5 Stars & 18.5-/20 (93) Raymond Chan, September 2018 (2015 Vintage)
"Very dark, black-hearted ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge with slight purple hues. The nose is finely concentrated with firm and well-packed aromas of ripe, dark-red and black-berried fruits entwined with spicy black plums with nuances of dark herbs and some earthy interest. This possesses a degree of exoticism. Medium-full bodied, the palate has bright and vibrant, robust flavours of dark-red plums and berryfruit, along with spice notes and a little iron-earth. This has sweetness and lusciousness, and the fruit is matched by grainy tannin extraction. Flavours of liquorice and earth unfold and the wine carries with good grip and integrated acidity to a lingering finish. This is a robust Merlot/Malbec with dark plum and berry fruit, along with spices and earth with good tannin structure. Match with casseroles and slow-cooked game meats over the next 5-6 years. A blend of 57% Merlot and 43% Malbec, all from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in oak, a small portion new French barrels."

"Previously sold under the ‘Metals and Gravels’ label, this 57:43 M & M blend is showing how fantastic 2015 was in Hawke’s Bay for merlot-dominant, Bordeaux-style red wines. Elegant, statuesque and stacked with buckets of black fruits, masses of Christmas pudding spices and vanilla-soaked oak notes, slippery, succulent acidity and an easy-like-Sunday-morning mouthfeel. It’s super-juicy to drink and represents hot value for money."
