An intriguing style of Sauvignon Blanc that has reached cult status around the world. Produced in very limited quantities this takes the famous Sauvignon Blanc fruit from the Cloudy Bay Vineyards that is gently pressed into mostly old French oak barrels and then left alone to do its thing. A long slow spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts is followed by a partial malolactic and another year or so in barrel resulting in a very different but beguiling style of Sauvignon Blanc.

Winery notes (2013 Vintage)
"Initial scents of white florals and fresh herbs are supported by those of sweet stone fruits and honeysuckle, and completed by a flinty intriguig minerality. Juicy, with mouthwatering notes of nectarine, kaffir lime and lemongrass. A round and creamy mouthfeel complimented by a gentle minerality, while the nervy acidity contributes to a youthful and vibrant finish."

93/100 James Suckling (2013 Vintage)
"Another nicely groomed and balanced edition of this flagship wine. It has a layer of dried flowers, beeswax and dried wild grasses across more fruit-centered aromas like lime leaves, lime curd and subtly spicy French oak influence. The palate has a more savoury start with hints of nougat, honey and passionfruit. Some pastry-like savoury moments as it builds texture and weight before folding neatly into an attractive, pithy, lime-citrus finish. Drink now to 2020."

92/100 Decanter (2013 Vintage)
"From some of Cloudy Bay's oldest blocks of vines, this wine introduced the idea of combining New Zealand Sauvignon with oak when it first launched. It spends 18 months in French barrels (only 8% are new) with regular battonage. Lime and green bell pepper aromas are joined by a hint of wood. The palate is intense and quite full bodied, with rich vanilla and wood flavours alongside lime juice and a hint of tangerine. Bold, open and powerful with a glorious saline finish. Drink 2017 – 2023."

91/100 Wine Spectator (2013 Vintage)
"Intense and distinctive, this opens with vivid floral details, featuring honeysuckle and peach aromas to the apricot and fleshy melon core. Very juicy lime acidity accents the spicy, honey-scented finish."

91/100 Wine Enthusiast (2013 Vintage)
"The most recent release of Te Koko seems tamer, more controlled than some previous vintages. It's Graves-like in style, offering up toast, vanilla and passion fruit notes, ample weight and a fine, silky finish that goes on for minutes. It embodies elegance and precision in place of wildness and raw power."
