Extravagantly dark and delicious

In stock

Full bodied, voluptuous and richly fruited Clare Valley Shiraz that is, as the name would suggest, dark as dark. This is no hold barred great drinking for lovers of the full on Clare Valley style. And if you are into the matching of wine and music, the power and brooding nuance of this wine makes it the perfect accompaniment to the Pink Floyd album of the same name.

Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Each component used in the blending of the Dark Side of the Moon creates a Shiraz that exemplifies certain characteristics of the Clare Valley.  From Leasingham to just north of the Clare Valley township, we had access to parcels that defined the sub-regions of Clare and work harmoniously to create a full, rich and balanced Shiraz.  Combined with careful oak selection with 20% New French Oak and 80% older French and American barrels, this Shiraz will continue to give for the next 8-10 years

Smells like – awesome! (Direct winemaker quote!)! But seriously….. Perfumed lifted fresh oak integrated with nuances of brambly forest fruits and dark olive tapenade. It’s a dark and brooding little beast, with subtle integration and balanced fruit; juicy dark fruit flavours of blood plums and blackcurrants. There are persistent, mouthcoating tannins and balanced oak that lifts rather than overpowers this wine. This vintage typifies Clare Valley and all it has to offer – a wine that will be hard to put down and will continue to find its stride in the months and years to come."

5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"A splendid offering; the richly fruited bouquet shows blackberry, blueberry compote, vanilla, cedar and cocoa characters with subtle spicy complexity. The palate is concentrated and powerful, delivering loads of delectable fruit flavours backed by velvety texture and silky tannins. It is magnificently styled, offering fabulous drinking. At its best: 2019 to 2028."

92/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Clare Valley shiraz. 20% new French oak, the remainder a mix of used French and American. It’s a bit of a brute. Dark in colour, dark berried/asphalt-like in flavour, rugged with tannin. It’s a road of black bitumen, pressed with crushed rock. Olives, plums, choc-mint; all make contributions. It’s a big, substantial wine."
