Californian Chardonnay has gone nuts here in New Zealand with people loving that big, rich, full on character that they so often exhibit. Chateau Souverain, a new label for us, has many of the same big fruit flavours but dials back the "full on" character just a little and while still full bodied and forward it introduces a touch of elegance to give a longer finish and want for more.
Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Chateau Souverain Chardonnay has inviting aromas of roasted pears, lemon citrus and subtle baking spice with elegant layers of pineapple and crème brûlée flavours. This full-bodied Chardonnay offers a plush texture and balanced acidity with a long, flavourful finish."
91/100 & Best Buy, Wine Enthusiast (2016 Vintage)
"This is a flavourful wine that combines vivid fruit flavours and judicious use of oak for a great sense of balance and composition. Butter, vanilla and pear aromas precede almond and baking spice flavours that are nicely backed by more pear and apple."
90/100 Decanter UK (2016 Vintage)
"A really elegant Californian Chardonnay that's miles away from the oaky, high-alcohol blockbusters of old. From winemaker Ed Killian, using the best lots of cool-climate fruit, it's full bodied and forward, packed with mango, pineapple and spiced pear. Complexity comes from part fermentation in oak, followed by lees ageing and bâtonnage, giving a creamy texture and a caramel popcorn length."
