We heard about the Calabria Private Bin wines through the grapevine as such and after a bit of research decided they would be a great addition to our range. So we asked the question, and the New Zealand importer/distributor of Calabria and Three Bridges wines was most obliging and now here they are. As the winery says… "The Calabria Private Bin range is dedicated to the founders of Calabria Family Wines, Francesco and Elizabeth Calabria, it is an expression of the Calabria Family’s Italian heritage, passion and winemaking tradition, who are leading the way in alternative grape varieties." And see below what the critics say…
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
"It’s one of those in-the-know brands; the prices are low but the quality strike-rate is high."
Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
"Broken record here, but this range, Calabria Private Bin, wins my pound-for-pound, best value range in Australia. Small batch winemaking applied to interesting varieties. Unreal."
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Montepulciano is an alluring red grape variety, originating from the Abruzzo region in Italy, and is perfectly adapted to the famously warm and dry Autumns of the Riverina, our home. The Calabria Montepulciano expresses the variety’s unique attributes of immense colour, spiced cherry, plum and raspberry with layers of savoury red fruits on the palate. Its tannic structure is generous, soft and well-balanced.
Sweet spiced cherries and plum, raspberry coulis with hints of cedary oak and blackberry leaf. Upfront fruit flavours on the palate of cherry consume, fresh picked raspberries and blackcurrant. The tannic prole is sweet yet restrained, with a delicate line of mouthwatering savoury, gravelly tannin finish with a delicate spicy French oak finish."

"It smells wonderful! Black cherries, raspberry jam and damson juice. Fabulous acidity that runs a fine arced line through the entire length of the wine. Exceptionally elegant fruit on the perfect cusp of ripeness. Finely spiced, finely sliced, gentle press of tannins. Mouth-watering finish."
