Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"The Marshall Bank Chardonnay grapes were grown at Ohiti Estate. Marshall Bank was an old family property in West Otago where Dr. Bill Robertson practiced for forty five years. The grapes were harvested on the 19th March 2018.
Fermentation took place in a mix of new and seasoned French oak barriques in a carefully temperature controlled environment. After fermentation was complete, the wine was lee stirred weekly until it was racked. Only a portion of this Chardonnay went through malolactic fermentation. Total time in barrel was for approximately ten months.
Currently a golden straw colour as you pour it into your glass. Generous peach flavours, nicely supported by fine grained oak, brioche and an enriched complex mid palate define this 2018 ‘Marshall Bank’ Chardonnay. It had a wild yeast fermentation with a partial secondary malolactic fermentation. The Marshall Bank is estate grown, the fruit is hand-picked, whole bunch pressed, and estate bottled. It is traditional in both its structure and taste – enjoy!"
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2018 Vintage)
"Brookfields' top Chardonnay is named after proprietor Peter Robertson's grandfather's property in Otago. Grown in a vineyard adjacent to the winery at Meeanee and fermented and matured (with weekly stirring of its yeast lees) in French oak barriques (50 per cent new in 2018), it is a powerful, classy, concentrated Hawke's Bay wine. The refined, generous 2018 vintage has a fragrant, complex bouquet. Already delicious, it is weighty, with deep stone-fruit flavours, balanced acidity, and impressive richness, complexity and harmony. Best drinking 2021+."
