"From the company that planted the region's first Sauvignon Blanc vines in 1975, Chosen Rows is promoted as 'the ultimate expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc'. The goal is to create 'an age-worthy wine with great palate weight and texture… a sophisticated, thought-provoking wine'. The second, 2013 vintage was grown in the historic Brancott Vineyard, hand-picked from 15 to 17-year-old vines, fermented with indigenous yeasts in large French oak cuves, and lees-aged for eight months. Bottled in June 2014 and released in December 2015, it is a powerful (14.5 per cent alcohol) wine, weighty and fleshy, with firm acid spine, very ripe melon/lime flavours, showing excellent concentration and complexity, and a dry, lasting finish. Drink now or cellar."
5 Stars & 95/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, December 2015 (2013 Vintage)
"Suave oak-aged Sauvignon Blanc with concentrated tree fruit, capsicum and nutty oak flavours. A lengthy finish reveals power though it is delivered with subtlety. A complex wine with obvious cellaring potential."
5 Stars & 19.0+/20 (96) Raymond Chan, December 2015 (2013 Vintage)
"Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, a little lighter on the rim. The bouquet is very elegantly proportioned with very taut and tightly concentrated aromas of spicy green stonefruits, greengages and nectarines, densely packed with herb, smoke, flint and nutty, mineral detail. The nose grows in depth, concentration and detail with aeration. Very dry to taste and medium-full-bodied, the palate features an extremely powerful and concentrated core of green stonefruits entwined with piquant herbs, spices, nuts and smoke, with mouthwatering mineral notes. The mouthfeel possesses considerable textural presence, the phenolics fine-grained, but considerable in vinosity. The wine has immense power and drive, the alcohol noticeably adding to the energy. This carries to a very long, concentrated, steely and mouthwatering finish. This is a very intense and powerfully concentrated oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with green stonefruit flavours and complexing. mouthwatering detail, significant structure and texture, power and a degree of elegance and proportion. Serve with herb-marinated seafood, poultry, pork, and veal dishes over the next 4-5+ years. Mass Select clone fruit from selected rows on the ‘Brancott’ vineyard, vines 15-17 y.o., hand-picked, WBP, undergoing low press cuts and indigenous yeast fermented in oak cuves to 14.5% alc. and 2.1 g/L RS, TA 8.1 g/L and pH 3.13, the wine spending 8 months on lees."
94/100 & Editors' Choice, Wine Enthusiast (2013 Vintage)
"This special Sauvignon Blanc is only being released in top vintages. The first was the 2010; the 2013 is the second vintage. Fermented in oak, it offers up complex aromas of pencil shavings and grapefruit, followed by hints of toast, cedar, red currants and gooseberries. It's a ripe, weighty style, but it carries those traits without a hitch, gliding seamlessly through a long, silky, mouthwatering finish."
93/100 Jamie Goode, January 2016 (2013 Vintage)
"Quite rich and intense, in a Cotat-like style, with powerful ripe pear and apple flavours. Concentrated and textural, but with good acidity. There are some subtle herbal characters. Primary, vivid and intense with a citrus/mineral edge to the fruit. Lively, with potential to age really nicely."
