This is another of the great value imports brought to New Zealand by Master of Wine, Steve Bennett. In fact Steve says of Bodegas Piqueras they are “One of the best value producers I’ve discovered in my 29 years in the industry.” High praise indeed and Steve has found some crackers. This is a nicely maturing, mid to full bodied Spanish Syrah with nice fruit and a complex savoury underbelly.
Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Full-bodied red wine with rich aromas of red cherries, plums and blackberries and spicy notes of black pepper. Remarkable red fruit presence on the mid-palate, soft tannins and medium-long finish. Balanced, excellent acidity, smooth and elegant in the mouth with a subtle hint of toastiness. Great ageing potential."

5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2019 (2014 Vintage)
"This is fabulous drinking. Lifted aromas of Black Doris plum, blueberry jam, hazelnut and cocoa on the nose with a touch of spicy complexity. The palate is succulent and plump with soothing texture and rounded mouthfeel, wonderfully supported by silky tannins. This is comforting and instantly appealing, and offers terrific value. At its best: now to 2020."
Yvonne Lorkin, March 2019 (2014 Vintage)
"A soft, easy, super-fruity syrah like this is just the ticket for a soothing sip to serve with anything meaty and spicy. This Spanish smooth-talker adds berries and spice and all things nice to anyone who prefers blueberry and leather notes in their syrah and less of the pronounced, peppercorn notes that most New Zealand examples exude. Ageing in American oak barrels for 6 months, provides a lick of vanilla on the finish."
