A stunning Sauvignon Blanc from a single vineyard Sauvignon in the Awatere Valley, it is bright and fresh with strong citrus and passionfruit with underlying capsicum and herbal notes. The palate has superb concentration, a lovely crisp acidity and an explosion of flavour, as well as a textural element that really sets this wine apart.
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"Blind River offers wine lovers small quantities of evocative, handmade wines that carry an authentic expression of Marlborough’s Awatere Valley. With such a small vineyard, Blind River Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir can never be of significant volume. The team therefore focus on two things; nurturing the vines to produce grapes with an authentic expression of the both the varietal and the vineyard and then translating this into the finished wine.
This textural Sauvignon Blanc is grown in small blocks, each treated separately in both the vineyard and in the winery. The resulting wines, including 10% barrel-fermentation in aged French oak, are then blended to achieve the ultimate Blind River style capturing intense passionfruit and mineral flavours while offering an authentic, handmade expression of New Zealand's Awatere Valley."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2019 Vintage)
"This classy, single-vineyard wine is partly (10 per cent) barrel-fermented. The 2019 vintage is bright, light lemon/green, fresh and punchy, with a touch of complexity and lively tropical-fruit and herbaceous flavours that build to a long, crisp, dry (1.5 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. Best drinking mid-2020+."

"Crammed with pungent aromas and fresh tropical fruit salad flavours that brim with pineapple, passionfruit and mango with ripples of summery herbs and a wham bang punch of quiveringly tart grapefruit that leaves behind a vibrant zing. Trophy NZ Wine of the Year Awards."
