Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Stunning Swaby is all game and no shame, effortlessly fulfilling the checklist of Chardonnay perfection: balance, structure, aromatics, seduction, generosity of spirit. Prettier and tighter than 2016, our 2017 Swaby is that oily spritz from a perfectly ripe tangerine as it pulls away from the tree. You can smell the last hints of springtime citrus blossom and the herbaceous leaf canopy and feel the lightly bitter tang of pith on the tip of your tongue. A gentle layer of flinty wood smoke curls through the branches. Refined, never fined, and seamlessly beautiful. 100% Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay, handpicked, wild-yeast fermentation, only four barrels made, some bâttonage, 12 months in 25% new French oak, bottled in December 2017, unfiltered & unfined."

"Serious wine. Planted in 1983, this is clone 110V1 Kenton Valley chardonnay that saw one year in French oak (25 percent new). Swaby is the grower of this striking chardonnay, one drinking very well now but will easily cellar for a decade +. This opens and carries a reductive swing throughout the muscular palate, drawing roasted nuts, hazelnuts, kernels, crisp apple and lemon blossom on the structural and grippy frame, right down to the big snap of salts / aged parmesan on the flinty finish. Only four barrels were made. Like all of BK's wines, this benefits from a decant."
93/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, March 2016 (2015 Vintage)
"Winemaking is decidedly en-vogue with smoke and flint dominating the bouquet, but it’s very attractive and meshed well to tangy citrus character, green herbs, green appley notes. Tangy, grapefruit pithy feel in palate, lean, light on, refreshing – it’s got the winemaking edifice but pristine, quietly powerful fruit flavour to back it up. Good refreshment factor on top of it all. Great drinking."
