Most of the Secateurs Chenin vines were planted the 1960s and tend to yield around 4 tons/hectare. The first Secateurs Chenin Blanc bottled under the Badenhorst Family Wines range was in 2009 and marked the start of a continuing affair with this most wonderful grape. The wine spends some time on its lees in concrete tanks and this important part of the maturation of the wine shows in the incredible texture and palate weight of this wine.

4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper, Listener Magazine, September 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"If you haven’t discovered the delights of chenin blanc, try this. From Badenhorst winery in South Africa, it is a highly scented, full-bodied wine (13% alc/vol), with strong, fresh pineapple and passionfruit flavours, slightly sweet and crisp. It’s already delicious."

90/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinous (2016 Vintage)
"Bright yellow-gold. Ripe but subtle scents of pineapple, anise and dusty wild herbs; one gets a sense of terroir here. A step up in energy and grip from the 2015 Curator, showing lovely salinity and fresh acidity, but less round and harmonious today, and still with a bit of unabsorbed CO2. This very dry, slightly disjointed Chenin Blanc has excellent density and material but needs a year or so to harmonize."

90/100 Wine Spectator (2016 Vintage)
"Brightly defined, with delicious quince, persimmon and green almond notes forming a core that is threaded with quinine and white ginger details. A light touch of toast on the finish lets the fruit and minerality play out."
