Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"This Riesling was made from fruit grown on mature vines, in the limey clay loams of the Waipara Valley floor – our younger vines grow well on the lighter gravel soils. Harvest is generally late in the season when the Riesling fruit is ripe and clean as this is ideal for development of tangy ripe flavours, while retaining a crisp freshness. These grapes were harvested while cool, then given a long, slow press. The juice was settled, racked and cool fermentation in stainless steel followed. This has produced a full flavoured Riesling with fresh aromas of citrus, and crisp apple along with hints of ginger and spice. These flavours continue into the palate, forming a juicy wine with a perfect balance between sweetness and tangy acidity.
This Riesling will develop in the cellar for several years, but is equally delicious now with a wide range of foods- seafood and cuisine with Thai and Japanese influences, or as an aperitif with smoked salmon and avocado. Drink this now or cellar for up to eight years."
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, August 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"The bouquet of this wine is immediate with minerality and floral delicacy, aromas of crunchy red and green apple, pear and limeflower then a synergy of these attributes on the palate which builds complexity and intrigue. Cool climate acidity accentuates the limestone mineral suggestions, there’s a light saline quality then white fleshed fruit and citrus flavours return. Delicious and fresh, dry on the finish, lengthy and well made. Best drinking from 2025 through 2035."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"Elegant and beautifully expressed, showing Gala apple, grapefruit, lemon peel and white floral nuances, followed by a finely flowing palate that's delightfully ripe and flavoursome. Pristine and focused with subtle sweetness backed by firm acidity, finishing long and mouth-watering. Style: Medium-dry. At its best: now to 2033."
