Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Grown in our Church Road vineyard in Waipara, this Gewurztraminer has been made from the fruit off our youngest vines The hand-harvested grapes were foot-stomped in the traditional manner then pressed and the juice fermented slowly in seasoned barrels to produce a delicious wine bursting with the distinctive aromas of lychees, rose petal and subtle spices. These flavours flow through into the palate in a wonderful blend with an off-dry finish. This Gewurztraminer is great with many spicy and flavourful foods including Thai and most asian cuisine dishes using lemongrass, coriander, chilli and lime to name a few."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"Still youthful, the 2016 vintage of this North Canterbury wine is finely textured and perfumed. Weighty, with ripe, citrusy, spicy flavours, showing a touch of complexity, and excellent depth, it should be at its best 2020+."
91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Youthfully charming and beautifully lifted, the bouquet shows mango, pineapple, rose petal and spice aromas, leading to a juicy palate that is plump and fleshy. The wine offers attractive varietal flavours together with silky mouthfeel and refreshing acidity, finishing velvety and lingering. Style: Off-dry. At its best: now to 2020."
88/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Vibrant, varietal and enticing set of aromas with a floral spicy fruit laden bouquet. Just dry with a firm(ish) texture, medium+ acidity and flavours of quince, crushed stones, lemon and apple. The classic components of Gewurz’ follow with nougat, some lychee and flowers. Just warm and spicy on the finish. A food wine, balanced and well made. Drink now and through 2021."
