Since the 1950s a little-known collective of Barolo growers ("Terre del Barolo") carried on, under the radar. But it became impossible for them to ignore the stunning success of their neighbouring collective in Barbaresco, Produttori, so on that model they recently launched their own renaissance. Suddenly they are channeling their growers' best Cru fruit into state of the art winemaking and labels under the new brand ‘Arnaldo Rivera’, named after an original founder.

A single site Barolo with serious potential for short term cellaring. This vineyard lies near the picturesque castle of Grenzane Cavour, where deep dark clay soils on a nice south west aspect sit at only a moderate elevation of 250m. The result is a wine of subtle richness where delicate but long, piercing fruit is grounded in firm tannins, earthy complexity and textural depth. A classic balance of femininity and power, this Cru Barolo is starting to settle into its drinking phase, but only just beginning to reveal its full dimension. Superb potential at this price.

Winery notes (2013 Vintage)
"A unique wine; a true expression of each vintage. Top quality clusters tended with care in the best positions on our vineyards in the eleven villages (“undici comuni”, hence the name) in the Barolo growing area. The circular logo on the label shows, in different colours, the areas of the eleven villages."

17.5/20 Walter Speller, (2013 Vintage)
"Just mid ruby with bricky rim. The oakiest on the nose of all the Arnaldo Rivera 2013 Barolo but with an intriguing spiciness and minerality underneath. Firm tannins and shy yet long, austere cherry fruit. Really interesting, long and energetic and has absorbed all the oak. This will need some time to come around, and showing Grinzane Cavour from its very best side, or should that be site? — Grinzane Cavour. 15 days of total skin maceration with spontaneous MLF in oak. 32 months in new French tonneaux and quite a luxury treatment for this relatively unknown cru. (WS)." Drink 2020 – 2032

89/100 Andrew Jefford, Decanter UK (2013 Vintage)
"Grown on a single south-west facing vineyard of clay-rich marls at 250 m in this ‘satellite’ zone of Barolo, separated from the main body of the DOCG by a strip of Diano d’Alba land. Light in colour, with dusty redcurrant scents and slender, elegant, light pomegranate and cranberry fruit on the palate."
