Iselis by Argiolas is a red wine made from primarily Monica grapes and is aged in barriques for 12 months. The bouquet is rich and complex with notes ranging from maraschino to plum, to a final of cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate it is intense and enveloping, with a finish with very sweet tannins.
Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"This wine is born from Monica, a grape native to the island, typical of the countryside surrounding Cagliari. Monica is a challenge, we might almost call it a rough diamond – it needs skill and understanding to comprehend just which facets to create to bring out its best lights. Iselis red is the discovery of a complex, structured Monica, enhanced by just a touch of Carignano (Carignan) and Bovale. After careful winemaking, it develops in barriques for one year, then matures in the bottle for a further six months.
It is deep ruby red in colour, with an intense round nose, with notes of red fruit and plums. In the mouth it is harmonious, velvety, perfectly balanced. Thus Iselis has the right personality and flavour to match with dishes which have their own decided flavour, such as traditional pasta courses dressed with tomato sauce, fish stews, slices of grilled tuna or barbecued red meats."
