67% Chardonnay & 33% Pinot Noir
Number 1, 5 Stars & Best Buy, Cuisine Sparkling Tasting, October 2019 (NV)
"Expanding their vineyard holdings has enabled the winery to meet the demands of growth while building the sparkling base wine programme and remaining 100% estate grown. The vineyards have been carefully developed and sensitively farmed with 82 distinct parcels identified. This dedication is certainly paying off with Akarua claiming both the first and the second position in this tasting. Crisp and fresh with a delicate bubble this wine is precise with a focussed and elegant structure. The complex flavours of ripe citrus, stone fruits, honey and toast are creamy yet beautifully balanced."
4 Stars Michael Cooper, 2020 Edition (NV)
"This non-vintage wine has evolved over the past five years from a Pinot Noir-predominant style to a 2:1 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Designed as an apéritif style, it is estate-grown at Bannockburn and disgorged after at least 18 months on its yeast lees. It is typically vivacious and smooth, with a fragrant, yeasty bouquet, citrusy, slightly appley and biscuity flavours, showing good complexity, and a crisp, harmonious finish."
90/100 Decanter, January 2016 (NV)
"Made by sparkling wine expert Dr Tony Jordan, this brilliant fizz delivers vibrant freshness and creamy mousse along with complex yeasty, nutty notes from 18 months’ lees contact in bottle. Fine texture, strawberry scent and delicate citrus notes, nicely balanced."
90/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, June 2018 (NV)
"Pretty green apple, white flesh pear scents, touches of vanilla, sweet spice. Gentle start. Creamy hit of frothy bubbles to taste, light on in flavour but gets the freshness spot on. Energetic though simple sparkling wine. Aperitif kind of vibe."
90/100 Jamie Goode, March 2019 (NV)
"Blend across vintage, majority for this one is from 2016. 6 g/l dosage. 13% alcohol. Fresh, pure and clean with lovely crisp citrus and pear fruit. Focused with a bit of structure from the good acidity and a nice finish."
