PEGASUS BAY VIRTUOSO CHARDONNAY 2015 is available to buy in increments of 1
With only 3 barrels of this wine made, this will be a case of blink and its gone. From the oldest Mendoza clone vines (30+ years) this is a wine of considerable power and intensity and full of the usual Pegasus Bay personality.
Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Virtuoso is part of our reserve series which we only make in exceptional years. It is a selection from the best barrels, coming from some of the oldest plantings in the vineyard (30+ yrs). As with all our Chardonnay’s, we use traditional Burgundian winemaking methods.

The colour is deep lemon/straw. On the nose there are aromas of citrus, as well as some stone fruit (peach/nectarine). In addition there is a hint of struck match which adds refreshing flinty minerality. There are also some underlying savoury notes (toast and brioche) as a result of the secondary fermentation and lees contact in the barrel. The wine expands on the palate to become mouth filling and powerful, however there is a refreshing core of acidity that ensures it remains tight and focussed, with a lingering finish."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"Blended from several of the 'best barrels', this wine is hand-picked from the company's mature, Mendoza-clone vines at Waipara. Fermented with indigenous yeasts, it is lees-aged for a year in French oak puncheons (40 per cent new in 2015), matured in tanks on light lees for several more months before bottling, and then bottle-aged for a year prior to its release. The 2015 vintage is a rich, stylish, youthful wine, likely to be long-lived. Light yellow/green, it is full-bodied, with deep, ripe stone-fruit flavours, showing excellent delicacy and complexity, good acid spine, a slightly minerally streak, and a lasting finish. Open 2019+."
94/100 James Suckling (2015 Vintage)
"The top tier of chardonnay at Pegasus Bay is in great form with a more reserved style than the regular estate bottling from the same the year. Fruit aromas are in the grapefruit and green mango zone. The palate heads more in a stone fruit direction. Supple and fresh."
