"Cooler than average Spring temperatures led to a smaller set, however this resulted in excellent fruit concentration. A warm Summer and long lingering Autumn then followed, allowing this smaller crop to reach optimum ripeness. The colour is pale gold with aromas of citrus fruit, greengage, gooseberry and passionfruit. There is also a hint of struck match and freshly crushed thyme. The Sémillon component helps fill out the palate, adding fruit weight, richness and ageability, while also acting to restrain the exuberant herbaciousness of the sauvignon blanc. The lees contact adds further creaminess and body, however there is still a crisp refreshing minerality on the finish."

"At its best, this Waipara, North Canterbury wine is concentrated and complex, with loads of personality. From vines 30 years old, the highly impressive 2015 vintage is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (15 per cent fermented in new French oak barriques) and Sémillon (fermented in old French oak puncheons), matured for eight months on its yeast lees. The fragrant, complex bouquet leads into a sturdy, sweet-fruited wine, still very fresh and youthful, with deep, ripely herbaceous flavours, showing excellent complexity, and a fully dry (0.8 grams/litre of residual sugar), lasting finish. Best drinking 2018+."

"Bright, light straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, a little paler on edge. This has a full and voluminous nose with deeply packed aromas showing an array of green stonefruits including greengages and nectarines, along with gooseberry, herb and grassy nuances, and soft nutty oak elements. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate possesses bold, intense and up-front flavours of greengages, nectarines, green stonefruits and a subtle layer of nutty oak. The palate is mouthfilling and flavoursome, with a deep core, and the wine flows along a fine-textured line of fruit extract. The mouthfeel is fresh with lacy acidity providing tension, enhancing the linearity. The wine carries to a long and sustained, vibrant finish of green stonefruits. This is a rich, vibrant and bold, mouthfilling Sauvignon Blanc/Sémillon blend with an array of green stonefruit flavours with plenty of mouthfeel and textural presence. Match with herb-marinated poultry and pork dishes over the next 3-4+ years. A blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon, from 30 y.o. vines, indigenous yeast fermented with 15% of the Sauvignon in new French oak barriques and the Sémillon in seasoned puncheons to 13.9% alc., the wine aged 8 months on lees."

"Quite an oaky wine with a strong oak influence on both the nose and palate. Richly textural white with the sort of weight and grip I expect from chardonnay. Quite a pleasing, complex wine with power and a lengthy finish. A distinctly unique wine with a character all of its own. Drink 2017 - 2021."
