PEGASUS BAY PINOT NOIR 2015 is available to buy in increments of 1
This is not the Pegasus Bay's flagship Pinot Noir, but it sometimes beats its big brother and has been consistently good for many years. A much-lauded style with intensity and an array of plum, berry, oak, toasted nut, mineral and anise spice flavours. There's a delightfully rustic hint to the wine, perhaps from the fine, ripe tannins.
Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Cooler than average Spring temperatures led to a smaller set, resulting in excellent fruit concentration. A warm Summer and long lingering Autumn then followed, allowing this smaller crop to reach optimum ripeness.

The wine has a vibrant ruby appearance. On the nose there is a selection of red fruit aromas (raspberry, pomegranate and cherry), as well as pepper and clove. Underpinning this are savoury notes reminiscent of grilled game and black olive tapenade. The palate is satisfyingly concentrated with fine grained tannins, however there is a refreshing minerality which ensures the wine remains tight and focused, with a lasting finish."
Reviews for the 2014 vintage below...
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2014 Vintage)
"This is one of North Canterbury's greatest Pinot Noirs, typically very rich in body and flavour. Many of the vines are over 25 years old and the wine is matured for 18 months in French oak barriques (about 40 per cent new). The 2014 vintage is fragrant, with deep, youthful colour. Already delicious, it is weighty, with concentrated, very ripe plum and spice flavours, a vague hint of liquorice, and a well-rounded, lasting finish. Drink now or cellar."
5 Stars & 18.5/20 Raymond Chan, September 2017 (2014 Vintage)
"Full, even, dark ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The bouquet is full, soft and voluminous with complex aromas of savoury red berry and cherry fruit entwined with dried herbs and undergrowth, a little funky game nuances and whole bunch stalk perfumes, unveiling lifted red florals. Medium-full bodied, the palate has gently concentrated and evenly presented flavours of dark-red cherry and berry fruit harmoniously melded with savoury dark herbs, earthy notes, and subtle whole bunch stalk perfumes, lifted by red floral nuances, The fruit flavours are enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity and supported by moderately extracted, fine-grained, supple tannins. The wine flows smoothly to a dry finish of red fruits and dried herbs. This is a gently concentrated, harmonious Pinot Noir with complex savoury dark-red cherry and berry fruit with dried herb and earthy notes on a supple, smooth, finely extracted palate. Match with mushroom dishes, casseroles and game meat dishes over the next 5+ years. Multi-clone blend, many of the vines over 30 y.o. and ungrafted, indigenous yeast fermented with 20-25% whole bunches to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 30% new French oak barriques."
94/100 James Suckling (2014 Vintage)
"A very fresh and concentrated edition of this majestic pinot noir. This is bathed in dark cherry fruits, earth and spices, and there's a meaty depth and plenty of forest bracken too. The tannins are long and grainy, and carry rich dark cherry-plum fruit flavours long."
94/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2014 Vintage)
"Complex. Mineral laden, dark red berry fruits, brown spices, mushroom, crushed black rose, alluring perfumes and scents. On the palate – complex. Dry, bold  ripe tannins and vibrant acidity; organic, mineral, earthy, floral and fruity. An intriguing wine with plenty of Pinosity and structure. Drink now and through 2028."
Joelle Thomson (2014 Vintage)
"North Canterbury is often eclipsed by its southern cousin, Central Otago, but the best wines reach peaks that are at least as high, particularly Pegasus Bay, whose Pinots continue to grow in deliciousness, bringing a different take on the Pinot theme with their full body, earthy flavours, juicy succulence that provides the wines with length, finesse and elegance. The wine spent 18 months in French oak, 30% of which was new and adds some spicy bells and smooth whistles while."
