Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir has a reputation for elegance and ageability. This vintage continues the evolution under winemaker Todd Stevens. It’s fragrant; expressing plums, exotic spice, cracked pepper, Horopito for kiwis, brambles, mānuka bark and wood smoke. It’s rich but not overblown. The tannins are finely tuned and chiselled creating a wine which is groomed and precise."
5 Stars & 96/100 Bob Campbell MW, August 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Elegant pinot noir with bright cherry, rose petal, mineral, raspberry and spicy oak flavours. A high energy wine, with impressive purity and power delivered with great subtlety. Long and linear. Easy to love now but with good cellaring potential."
95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, August 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"An excellent bouquet of Pinot Noir – ticking all the boxes of allure, ripeness of fruit and concentration with aromas & flavours of cherry then other light red berry fruits – a light tarty edge shows off the youth alongside medium+ acidity and firm tannins with chalky to fine textures; a light savoury complexity and judicious measure of oak completes this wine. Another fine example from the Neudorf stable – with both immediate drinkability as well as cellar potential; long and complex finish. Decant for service through 2018; best from 2020 through 2030+"
94/100 Nick Stock, jamessuckling.com (2015 Vintage)
"A very savoury wine that has a really settled feel to it. It's immensely fresh, and there's a darkly spicy and undergrowthy layer with very crisply cut tannins on the palate. Silky core of dark cherry fruits. Assertive acidity holds together the tannins, which have polished, smooth appeal."
93/100 Jamie Goode, October 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"There's a warm perfume to this wine with notes of cinnamon and dried herbs hiding behind the sweet cherry and plum fruit. Lovely texture in the mouth, showing a silky elegance but also some savoury spiciness. There's fresh cherry fruit, some cedary spice and some hints of meat and herbs. This could be a nice mid-term ager, but it's already drinking quite well."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"Typically a very classy Nelson red. It is hand-picked from 'older vines' at Upper Moutere, fermented with indigenous yeasts, matured for 10 to 12 months in French oak barriques (18 per cent new in 2015), and usually bottled without fining or filtering. The impressive 2015 vintage is deep ruby, mouthfilling and savoury, with dense, ripe plum and spice flavours, showing excellent complexity and harmony. It should be long-lived; best drinking 2020+."
