Gold Medal - Marlborough Wine Show 2017
Clive Jones and the team at Nautilus take a lot of pride in their Chardonnay and the past few vintages have been outstanding. This new release 2016 may be the best yet. To get the best from the wine we'd recommend cellaring for 3-5 years. It really is worth doing this.
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"A stylish chardonnay offering splendid fruit purity with attractive savoury undertones and elegant oak infusion. The gorgeous bouquet shows white stone fruit, oatmeal, hazelnut and vanilla characters. It is meticulously expressed on the palate with multi-layered mouthfeel and creamy texture, wonderfully framed by bright acidity. It is mouth-filling and flowing with a terrific lengthy finish. At its best: 2018 to 2024."
5 Stars Yvonne Lorkin, March 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Winemaker Clive Jones is a serious talent. How he’s able to force so much flavour into this bottle I’ll never know, but it means every glass is a sensory overload. Prepare for preserved lemon, roast nectarine and grapefruity goodness. Caramelised, toasty oak and a vein of spice cloak a core of creaminess that adds delicious complexity on the finish. It’s rather wow-inducing."
19/20 Joelle Thomson, Drinksbiz April/May 2018 (2016 Vintage)
".. when it comes to complexity, this is your white. Dry nutty, full-bodied, tight, citrusy - think 'ripe grapefruit' and you're on the button. This is a gorgeous wine that drinks beautifully now and will age exceptionally well too. History proves it has great staying power for up to a decade at least, in a good cellar. This is a stunning Chardonnay that shines a new light on Marlborough's white wine scene.
5 Stars & 19.0/20 Raymond Chan, July 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Bright, pale straw-yellow colour. The nose is softly presented showing real depth and concentration of white and yellow stonefruits in a flinty amalgam with creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak. The palate is full-bodied and possesses presence, the flavours showing stylish restraint, but undeniable concentration and richness, with stonefruits and citrus fruits, mealy detail and layers of flinty complexity, along with creamy and nutty oak. This is subtle with its MLF expression. This is deliciously rich, complex and has proportion and style. Outstanding wine, Predominantly clones 15 and 95 with a little 548 and 1066, fully indigenous yeast barrel fermented with high solids, the wine spending 11 months in 25% new French oak, undergoing batonnage and approx. 85% MLF."
