Top 5 Sauvignon Blanc - Winestate Wine of the Year

Mount Vernon is one of the peaks towering above Marlborough's Wither Hills and Mount Vernon Sauvignon Blanc is certainly hitting some peaks this year and surely must be Marlborough's most highly awarded Sauvignon Blanc for 2017. Five Gold Medals is an impressive achievement for any wine, let alone one selling at this very modest price. Gold Medal status was achieved at Air New Zealand Wine awards 2017, NWWA 2017, NZIWS 2017, Marlborough Wine Show 2017 and also the Sydney Top 100. Wow! It also made Winestate's Top 5 Sauvignon Blancs for 2017 and has impressed us here at Vino Fino with its exciting mix of herbaciousness, tropical fruits and pleasing citrus tang.
Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"The aromatics are big and punchy with lots of passionfruit, herbaceous and citrus notes. The palate is smooth and packed with a lovely intensity of flavour. Passionfruit, citrus and more tropical fruit characters lead to an attractive herbaceous finish. Bright and refreshing. Classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc."
91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2017 (2017 Vintage)
"It is beautifully lifted on the nose showing nectarine, green rockmelon, apple and lime zest characters. The palate is juicy and vibrant, and delivers youthful fruit flavours backed by crisp acidity. Flavoursome and delightfully drinkable. At its best: now to 2019."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"From Lawson's Dry Hills, the 2017 vintage is aromatic and lively, with a touch of complexity and melon and green-capsicum flavours, showing very good delicacy and length. Finely balanced (3.8 grams/litre residual sugar), it's delicious from the start."
