Trophy for Champion Pinot Noir - Sydney Boutique Wine Awards 2015

Having Catherine Keith from Mount Brown at Vino Fino for our Tuesday tasting has enabled us to get our hands on a very small parcel of this Triple Trophy Winning Waipara Pinot Noir. This made a big impression at the Boutique Wine Awards in Sydney in 2015 taking out three trophies including Wine of the Show, Red Wine of the Show and the Champion Pinot Noir Trophy. Add to that some rather impressive reviews and it being right in its ideal drinking window now, it's hard to resist. Stocks are very limited - first in, first served!
Winery notes (2013 Vintage)
"This is the first wine released under our  Grand Reserve label which celebrates the very best of our wines. A perfect growing season produced this intensely flavoured, fruit driven wine with plum and forest fruit flavours along with hints of spice.

A warm vintage with cool nights has produced a wine of concentration and finesse. The wine has aromatics of rich forest fruits with spicy undertones. The palate shows good weight and texture with fine acidity giving balance and poise. Ageing in French oak and malolactic fermentation have resulted in a complex, well-balanced wine with a generous palate and long finish."
5 Stars & 96/100 Bob Campbell MW (2013 Vintage)
“It has an impressive purity with vibrant, intense red cherry, raspberry, mineral and spice/anise flavours. Subtle sweetness is perfectly balanced by fine, fruity acidity. The wine has an impressively lingering finish. Outstanding value at this price.”
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit (2013 Vintage)
"Engaging and complex, the wine combines wonderful fruit purity with savoury complexity. Lifted aromas of dark cherry, blueberry, game, dark leather and nutmeg lead to a concentrated and supple palate that shows excellent fruit weight, backed by fine tannins. Superb structure and harmony. At its best: now to 2019."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 Raymond Chan, August 2015 (2013 Vintage)
"Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, lighter on rim. This has a full, soft and richly ripe bouquet of dark raspberry fruit harmoniously melded with dark plums, liquorice and complexing dark herbal detail. Nuances of spice, violet florals and nutty oak emerge with aeration, the fruit growing with depth and intensity. Medium-full bodied, the palate is rich, plush and sweetly ripe with bright and vibrant fruit flavours of dark raspberries, black plums and liquorice. This is softly concentrated with a deep and densely packed core. The mouthfeel is soft and refined with fine-grained, ripe and supple tannins that carry the wine to a long, succulently fruited finish of raspberry liqueur, spices and liquorice. This is a plush and ripe, raspberry and plum fruited Pinot Noir with a softly concentrated, refined palate. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 6-7+ years. Davis and Dijon clone fruit destemmed and given a cold soak, partially indigenous yeast fermented to14.0% alc., the wine spending 10 days on skins post ferment and aged 18 months in 30% new French oak barriques."
