92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot & 4% Cabernet Franc
One of the great Australian Cabernets. This is from Moss Wood's oldest block in the Margaret River - 2013 is the 40th Vintage. Refined, elegant with sandalwood, blackcurrant flavours. Seamless from start to finish, this is a wine of poise.
5 Stars & 97/100 Bob Campbell MW (2013 Vintage)
"Dense, rich and ripe cabernet sauvignon with classic blackberry, blackcurrent, cedar, tobacco and spicy oak flavours. Seamless red with a very lengthy finish. Although accessible now this wine clearly has great cellaring potential. Drink 2016 – 2033."
95/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front (2013 Vintage)
"The 2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Moss Wood cabernet sauvignon; 1973 was the first release. This 2013 release was matured in all French oak, as you’d expect, though only 15% was new, as you might not. It’s a blend of 92% cabernet sauvignon, 4% petit verdot and 4% cabernet franc. Seriously fine grained. It may seem like a funny thing to mention first-up, but it’s almost the chief characteristic both of this release, and so often of Moss Wood cabernet. Or at least historically so. Oak has also been a key player over the past decade and even at 15%, it’s still plain to see/taste here too. Amazingly enough. It helps make for a seductively textural wine, backed by blackcurrant, boysenberry, black olive and mint. Length is excellent. So too balance, especially in the context that this is still super-young. Suggestions of tobacco are nothing more than that. There is no question that this will age well."
96/100 James Suckling (2013 Vintage)
"This has an impressive core of fruit, showing blood orange and red currants, blueberry, red plum and more; plenty of spicy, mocha-scented oak too, then chalky notes, and a little leafy edge. The palate has a fine grain, dense and supple; tannins are smooth, even and dense. Long future, ripe and bright, but needs more time. Best from 2021."
