Mondillo Pinot Noir has impressed us for many years but a recent look at the 2015 vintage has got us enamoured even more. It is right up there with the very best as the below reviews will testify. It also has Gold Medals from the NZIWS and Royal Easter Show.

Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Dark, full-bodied with ripe black cherry aromas and a concentrated core of dark-red berry fruits. The smooth palate softly packed with fragrant spices, liquorice, chocolate, berry fruits and soft oak.

The 2015 Bendigo growing season had a cool beginning, followed by warm weather and calm conditions that provided the perfect environment for flowering. A warm summer lead to a dry sunny Autumn – the perfect harvest conditions for well balanced fruit. The fruit was hand harvested, 100% de-stemmed followed by a long cold maceration, fermented with indigenous yeast and gently pressed. It has been aged in French oak barriques, of which 30% were new for 11 months."

"Appealing scented wine with ripe plum and dark cherry flavours together with a seasoning of spices including wild thyme and anise. An attractively textural Pinot Noir - silken with good weight. A wine with a strong Central Otago and Bendigo signature."

"Estate-grown at Bendigo, in the Cromwell Basin, the 2015 vintage was matured for a year in French oak casks (30 per cent new). Deep ruby, it is sturdy (14.5 per cent alcohol), vibrant and supple, with fresh, concentrated, plummy, spicy flavours, slightly earthy and nutty notes adding complexity, and a well-rounded, harmonious finish. Still youthful, it should be at its best 2018+."

"Dark, moderately deep ruby-red colour with purple hues, paler edged. This has an elegantly presented nose with a concentrated core of ripe black cherry and dark-red berry fruits, tightly packed with complexing nuances of thyme herbs with subtle liquorice notes, unfolding savoury minerals and dark-red and violet florals. The aromatics blossom in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the palate is softly packed with densely concentrated and harmoniously interwoven flavours of dak cherry and dark-red berry fruits along with thyme herbs, minerals and liquorice. The fruit is rich and sweet, and mouthfilling, unfolding savoury herbal detail, and flows along a smooth, near-seamless line. The tannin extraction is fine-grained and supple, with soft, ripe acidity enlivening the fruit. The wine carries to a soft but concentrated, sustained finish of dark red fruits, florals and herbs. This is a rich, harmoniously balanced Pinot Noir with savoury herb layers and a supple, smooth palate. Serve with pork, lamb and beef dishes over the next 5-6+ years. Clones 5, 114, 115, 667 and 777 from the ‘Mondillo’ vineyard, Bendigo, fully destemmed and fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine spending 21-24 days on skins and aged 11 months in 30% new French oak."

"Vibrant almost powerful bouquet of Pinot with aromas of red cherries, red currants and plum; ripe and youthful with a lifted floral note then aromas of new wood and spice. On the palate - dry, warm, fruity and textually expressive with firm tannins and plenty of acidity, a savoury light whole bunch layer adds depth and complexity; lengthy finish. Decant for service through 2018. Best from late 2019 through 2028."
