From Waiheke Island & Ponui Island which just lies to the west of Waiheke. It is the Ponui portion that originally dicated the style of this Pinot Gris - the grapes can only be barged off the island when the tides are suitable and this also dictates picking times. This originally resulted in a late pick style which became hugely popular and is continued today. The aromas burst out of the glass redolent of apricots and ginger spice. The sweetness is balanced by fine acidity. Unctuous and delicious.

"​Named in tribute to Napoleon’s final place of exile where he was banished after his defeat at Waterloo. Exiled is awarded to our most prized Pinot Gris, made exclusively from the St Helena clone grown on our Ponui & Waiheke Island vineyards. The 2016 Exiled shows an intensity of the St Helena clone with masses of ginger and citrus fruit on the nose and a palate that is richly textured yet elegantly structured. Exiled 2016 manages to balance an abundance of fruit and natural sugar with fresh vibrant acidity and a minerality towards the end which is further enhanced by natural carbon dioxide and fruit tannin giving a satisfyingly long dry thirst quenching finish.

"​A blend of grapes from Waiheke and Ponui Islands, this is reminiscent of a Grand Cru Alsace pinot gris. It is gloriously expressed on the nose displaying marmalade, mango, orange peel, spice and potpourri characters. The palate is sumptuous and opulent, and shows excellent concentration and intensity, wonderfully enhanced with gentle sweetness and juicy acidity. A powerful expression offering terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2022."

"​Full, even, light golden-hued yellow colour, a little lighter edged. The nose is full, round and deeply packed with opulently ripe apricot and yellow stonefruit and pear aromas entwined with honey, exotic florals and nutty elements, revealing an underlying minerally freshness. Medium-sweet to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has a lively and bright core of, rich, opulent, honied stonefruit flavours unfolding a layering of exotic florals and tropical fruits, and subtle notes of flint, nuts and minerals. The mouthfeel is luscious and decadent, with fine phenolic textures underlining the fruit, and balanced acidity lending vitality. The wine carries to a rich, long, honied finish. This is a rich, opulent medium-sweet Pinot Gris with flavours of yellow stonefruits, tropical fruits, florals an honey on a luscious and lively palate. Match with mildly spicy Middle Eastern and Asian fare over the next 4+ years. 100% ‘St Helena’ clone Pinot Gris, from 4 sites on Waiheke Island and the ‘Paradise’ vineyard on Ponui Island, hand picked and fermented in stainless-steel to 12.5% alc. and 33 g/L RS, and bottled to retain some natural CO2."

"A moderately sweet pinot gris, although the sweetness is perfectly balanced by fresh acidity. Together the sweetness and acidity create an appealing tension and dryish mouth-tingling finish. An unusual and distinctive wine, with a mix of tree fruit and citrus flavours. Drink 2016 to 2020."

"The 2016 vintage was grown on Waiheke and Ponui islands, and 20 per cent of the blend was handled in seasoned French oak casks. Pale straw, it is medium-bodied and gently sweet (28 grams/litre of residual sugar), with vibrant peach, pear and ginger flavours, fresh acidity, and very good drive and depth."
