Gold Medal - New World Wine Awards 2017 (2015 Vintage)
Like all the other Main Divide wines, this over delivers on the flavour, quality and value fronts to offer excellent drinking at a fantastic price. Lusciously off dry with a richness, concentration of flavour, and complexity that could only come from Pegasus Bay. Aromas and flavours of ripe pear and spice, judicious residual sugar, added texture from barrel fermentation and lees aging, and a mineral freshness keeping it all in balance are rare attributes in a Pinot Gris at this price. Embrace and enjoy!
96/100 NWWA Judges (2015 Vintage)
"Flavours of apricot and baked apple, this is a bigger style Pinot Gris that is both dense and complex. It's fresh with balanced acidity and a long ripe finish with a wonderful spiciness."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"From Pegasus Bay, this is consistently a great buy. The 2015 vintage is drinking well now. Bright, light yellow/green, it has a gently honeyed bouquet, leading into a full-bodied wine with concentrated, peachy, spicy flavours, slightly sweet and crisp. Revealing a clear botrytis influence, it's already very open and expressive."
92/100 James Suckling (2015 Vintage)
"As ever, a very complex and well-judged take on the style. Plenty of depth, weight and concentration with peach custard, orange blossom and saffron-scented spices. Great texture."
91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2016 (2015 Vintage)
"Elegantly opulent, this attractive pinot gris is filled with ripe stone fruit, baked pear, floral and flinty characters. The palate delivers plenty of succulent fruit flavours, beautifully framed by silky texture and well-integrated acidity. There is a hint of sweetness on the palate but the wine finishes long and pleasing dry. Off-dry. At its best: now to 2019."
4 Stars & 17.5/20 Raymond Chan, June 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Full, light golden-yellow colour with some depth, paler edged. The nose is full with rich and ripe aromas of tropical fruits and stonefruits entwined with citrus notes, marmalade, honey and musk, and subtle herb elements. This has real depth, density, concentration and presence. Medium-dty to tste and medium-full bodied, the palate has rich, near unctuous flavours of ripe stonefruit and tropical fruit, with citrus fruit elements, melded with honey, hints of marmalade and musk. The flavours are rich, lively and mouthfilling, and the palate has a soft-textured, mellow line and gentle acid drive. The wine carries to a dryish, elegant finish of stonefruits, honey and musk. This is a rich, mouthfilling, medium-dry Pinot Gris with stonefruit and citrus flavours, marmalade honey and musk from botrytis influence, on a soft palate. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3+ years. Waipara Valley fruit with 20% botrytis infection tank-fermented with 15% in barrel to 13.5% alc. and 8.7 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees."
