There is almost always a long and ever growing list of accolades for Lawson's Dry Hills Gewurztraminer. As Michael Cooper says, it's "benchmark stuff". 
Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"This wine is predominantly from the Lawson's winery vineyard on Alabama Road with a small parcel from the nearby Woodward vineyard. The vines range in age between fourteen and thirty years and grow in soils with a high clay content, these factors combined with careful viticulture produce not only lovely aromatics but also great concentration. The 2016 growing season was long, warm and dry so we were able to harvest the grapes under ideal conditions.

Our approach with this Gewürztraminer is fairly hands-off. The grapes were picked and gently pressed, the pressings were separated and fermented (15% wild) in older French oak barriques. The free run juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks with a yeast strain originally from the Alsace.

This 2016 vintage displays the wonderful varietal characters of rose petals, lychee with delightful spice notes together with an off dry palate. As always our hallmark is depth of flavour, balance and great concentration. This Gewürztraminer will reward cellaring."

"One of the country's most impressive Gewürztraminers. Grown in the Home Block and nearby Woodward Vineyard, at the foot of the Wither Hills, it is typically harvested at about 24 brix and mostly fermented in stainless steel tanks; a key part of the blend (about 15 per cent) is given 'the full treatment', with a high-solids, indigenous yeast ferment in seasoned French oak barriques, malolactic fermentation and lees-stirring. The 2016 vintage is benchmark stuff. Bright, light lemon/green, it is weighty and well-rounded, with generous, youthful peach, pear, lychee and spice flavours and a rich, slightly sweet (7.5 grams/litre of residual sugar), very harmonious finish. It's already delicious."
