Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"This wine is an almost equal blend of grapes from the Lawson’s Home Block and the nearby Woodward vineyard. The vines range from between fourteen and thirty years in age and are grown in soils with a higher clay content. These factors combined with careful viticulture produce lovely aromatics and a great concentration of flavour.

This wine has a wonderfully varietal nose with a complex array of aromas. The classic lychee and rose petal notes are joined by lemon, mango, cardamom and ginger producing an intoxicating mixture. The palate has lovely fruit concentration and length yet has a lightness and poise which seem to be a characteristic of this extraordinary vintage. We have deliberately left a touch of sweetness to balance the wines acidity and weight."
4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"One of the country's most impressive Gewürztraminers. Grown in the Home Block and nearby Woodward Vineyard, at the foot of the Wither Hills, it is typically harvested at about 24 brix and mostly fermented in stainless steel tanks; a key part of the blend (about 15 per cent) is given 'the full treatment', with a high-solids, indigenous yeast ferment in seasoned French oak barriques, malolactic fermentation and lees-stirring. The youthful 2015 vintage is light lemon/green, ripely scented and mouthfilling, with gentle sweetness (8 grams/litre of residual sugar), strong pear, lychee and spice flavours, and a tightly structured finish. Open mid-2017+."
Number 3 & 4 1/2 Stars Cuisine Gewürztraminer Tasting, March 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Fruit from some of the oldest gewurztraminer vines in the country contributes to this perennially fine version. Joyously floral and fragrant, it has attractive purity and zesty lift in the mouth. “A balanced wine oozing personality and charm,” noted Cameron Douglas."
92/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"The wine offers classic perfumed aromas of mango, Turkish Delight, potpourri and fragrant spice on the nose. The palate delivers equally satisfying flavours and texture, wonderfully complemented by velvety mouthfeel and succulent flavours. Generous and beautifully balanced. At its best: now to 2020."

Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"This wine is predominantly from the Lawson's winery vineyard on Alabama Road with a small parcel from the nearby Woodward vineyard. The vines range in age between fourteen and thirty years and grow in soils with a high clay content, these factors combined with careful viticulture produce not only lovely aromatics but also great concentration. The 2016 growing season was long, warm and dry so we were able to harvest the grapes under ideal conditions.

Our approach with this Gewürztraminer is fairly hands-off. The grapes were picked and gently pressed, the pressings were separated and fermented (15% wild) in older French oak barriques. The free run juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks with a yeast strain originally from the Alsace.

This 2016 vintage displays the wonderful varietal characters of rose petals, lychee with delightful spice notes together with an off dry palate. As always our hallmark is depth of flavour, balance and great concentration. This Gewürztraminer will reward cellaring."

The 2016 vintage is benchmark stuff. Bright, light lemon/green, it is weighty and well-rounded, with generous, youthful peach, pear, lychee and spice flavours and a rich, slightly sweet (7.5 grams/litre of residual sugar), very harmonious finish. It's already delicious."
