The 2018 Squire Shiraz is a bold, inky mahogany red in colour and intensely aromatic, with powerful notes of dark roasted coffee, toasted almonds and dried fruits. The palate is plush and rich with char and spice flavours derived from extended oak barrel maturation. Abundant tannins add structure and length to the concentrated fruit core.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"Opaque inky black colour greets you. The initial intense aromas of spice from both fruit and oak entice you, followed by dark berries and a hint of vanilla/smoke and char. Abundant fine tannin interwoven and meshed with the core of sweet concentrated fruit introduce you to the multilayered flavours and textures. Cellar Potential: 20-30 years. Feel confident to lay down in controlled temperature environment for that special event. Peak drinking: 5-7 years. Be guided by your own palate and drinking pleasure.
Each of the three vineyards fruit parcels were kept completely unique throughout the winemaking and maturation period, and only blended to produce the 2018 Squire Shiraz in January 2020. Each wine has been matured in oak for different times. One wine for 10 months, and the other two wines for 14 months each. Both French and American oak Hogshead barrels were part of the maturation program, and barrel selection was a critical element of the blending process whereby only the barrels which were integrated and complete were selected for Squire. Naturally cold stable and only coarse filtration. On bottling this wine received no finings."
