Gold Medal & Trophy - Marlborough Wine Show 2011
Own label from Steve Bennett MW. Wild yeast ferment and barrel aged.
5 Stars & 19-/20 Raymond Chan, September 2011 (2009 Vintage)
"Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour, this has a powerful, intense nose of nectarine and passionfruit aromas with oak smokiness and flinty of lees flintiness, all integrated and densely packed. Dry to taste, the wine has intense herb, nectarine and smoky flavours along with fine, crisp acidity. Notes of smoke and flint unfold in the glass, revealing the layers of nuance built in, yet the wine is tightly proportioned and has a slippery mouthfeel. Fruit from the Rapaura region indigenous yeast fermented in seasoned French oak barrels to 14.0% alc., the wine aged on lees 9 months. This sits alongside ‘Section 94' and ‘Te Koko' in interest."
