The fruit for this comes from the famed Armagh vineyard. This is a big, strong Shiraz - almost 'old school'.  Dark fruit is melding into the oak with flavours showing some more mellow spice cupboard, earthy savouriness. A special wine and superb value.
94/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, June 2016 (2013 Vintage)
"Red and black berries, nougat and coconut, mint, light earthiness and soy sauce savouries. It’s medium to full bodied, smooth and well balanced, even flow of mixed berry flavour, nutty oak, some savoury stuff, fine grained tannin, and a long lip smacking finish with a gentle churn of tannin keeping it real. Beautifully turned out. Delicious."
5 Stars & 19.0/20 Raymond Chan, May 2018 (2013 Vintage)
"Very dark, deep, near impenetrable black-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is refined in presentation with intensely fragrant, perfumed aromas of dark-red berry and ripe plum fruit intermixed with dark-red florals, unfolding liquorice, Asian spices and eucalyptus. The intensity and depth increases with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate has a a finely concentrated, intense core with elegant proportion and tightly bound flavours of sweetly ripe blackberries and dark raspberries, along with juicy plum, liquorice and eucalypt notes. Some red floral lift adds to the aromatics. The fruit is supported by very fine-grained tannin extraction hat, though is considerable, allows the fruit sweetness to feature. This has great drive and line, and carries to a very long, spicy finish. This is a beautifully rich Shiraz with a degree of refinement, but also plenty of depth and structure. It will keep a decade plus. Fruit from ‘The Armagh’ and other Jim Barry vineyards fermented to 14.0% alc. the wine aged in French and American oak."
94/100 James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion (2013 Vintage)
"Firm with tannin and alive with promise. It's not the brightest spark but deep pools of blackberried fruit and swirls of firm coffeed tannin make it a monty for sound future development."
91+/100 Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate (2013 Vintage)
"Deep garnet purple in colour, the 2013 The McRae Wood Shiraz has a profound nose with black plums, berries and cherries, alongside spice box, violets, cedar and toast. Full, rich and chewy, though with slightly astringent tannins, the oak is poking out a bit and this wine needs some time."
91/100 Wine Spectator (2013 Vintage)
"Perfumed red and black fruit flavours have a licorice edge, with toast and dark chocolate details and plush, toothsome tannins. Drink now through 2030."
