"Initially toasty with wild herb, cream and buttery undertones. Ripe stonefruit flavours adds to the complexity. Full-bodied with a chalky phenolic finish. Finer citrus notes provide energy and flow to the lingering palate.
We hand pick our Chardonnay blocks separately before whole bunch pressing. We foot crush our B95 clone from clay soils to obtain phenolic presence. All lots were transferred into French Oak barriques (25% new) where they went through natural fermentation over several months and natural malo-lactic fermentation in mid-Summer. The wine ages in barrel without racking for 11 months in oak before estate bottling without fining."
5 Stars & 95/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, March 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Quite a ripe, fleshy chardonnay with peach, stone fruit, wet stone, mineral, roasted nut and bran biscuit flavours. A smooth-textured wine with plenty of power and a lingering finish. Can be appreciated now but has development potential."
96/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2016 Vintage)
"Complex, familiar and enticing bouquet of Chardonnay with a creamy textured bouquet of yellow fleshed fruits, vanilla, oak spices, yoghurt and wild flowers. Fabulous textures on the palate with lots of energy and freshness; medium+ acidity, minerality, spice and length. A wine to enjoy now and through 2024 or cellar."
5 Stars & 18.5/20 Raymond Chan, January 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Bright golden-yellow colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is full with softly concentrated aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits and citrus fruit harmoniously entwined with an amalgam of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak. The aromatics are densely packed, unfolding suggestions of buttery MLF. Full-bodied, the palate has integrated ripe flavours of yellow stonefruits, citrus and tropical fruit and creamy oak with buttery notes. The fruit is fulsome and mouthfilling with breadth and roundness, the acidity ripe and soft. There is considerable alcoholic power and drive, and the wine carries positively to a solid, deep, sustained finish. This is a fulsome, mouthfilling Chardonnay with ripe yellow stonefruit and citrus fruit melded with creamy and nutty oak, and plenty of power. Match with roast pork over the next 4 years. Hand-picked fruit, one block WBP, and the clone 95 fruit foot-crushed, the fruit indigenous yeast fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 25% new French oak barriques, with 100% MLF."
4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"The powerful 2016 vintage, picked at 24.1 brix, was fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barriques (25 per cent new), oak-aged for 11 months, and given a full, softening malolactic fermentation. Bright, light lemon/green, it is sturdy (14.5 per cent alcohol), with a fragrant, buttery bouquet. Showing impressive complexity, it has very generous, peachy, citrusy flavours, in a weighty, 'forward' style, already drinking well."
