Winery notes (2013 Vintage)
"Summers Chardonnay fruit was sourced from the premium cool climate regions of Eden Valley, Alpine Valley and the Adelaide Hills. The fruit was chilled and whole bunch pressed, with 100% of the wine fermented in a combination of new (55%), one, two and three year old French oak hogsheads. The wine was matured as individual batches in fermentation vessels for 8 months. Regular battonage (stirring of yeast lees) took place to enhance the texture of the wine, prior to blending and bottling.

The 2013 Summers Chardonnay is pale gold in colour, with complex aromas of citrus, white peach, nectarine and nuances of rcinnamon. The palate is finely balanced, with a creamy texture courtesy of the time on lees all supported by a linear backbone of acidity which combines to create an excellent length of flavour. This wine is a perfect example of cool climate Chardonnay with subtle oak usage playing nothing more than a supporting role. The depth of finish and decadent structure will allow this wine to age for 8- 10 years. Food matches such as pumkin ravioli, char-grilled chicken and creamy fish dishes all allow the 2013 Summers to fully express itself."
5 Stars & 18.5/20 Raymond Chan, January 2017 (2013 Vintage)
"Full, light golden-yellow with lemon-green hues, pale on the edge. The bouquet is firm and elegantly concentrated with aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits, citrus fruits and mealy elements along with complexing creamy barrel-ferment and nutty lees notes, and toasty oak. Medium-bodied, the palate has concentrated and intense flavours showing ripe citrus, stonefruit and tropical fruits melded with creamy and nutty oak, unfolding toasty layers. The flavours form a concentrated core and the wine flows along a fine-textured line with subtle acid backbone and energy, leading to a long, dry, toasty finish. This is a well-concentrated Chardonnay with layers of complex citrus, stonefruit and tropical fruit flavours melded with creamy, nutty and toasty oak complexities. Match with grilled poultry and roasted pork over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the ‘Summers’ and other Eden Valley vineyards, and fruit from the Adelaide Hills, WBP, and 95% fermented in 95% new French oak hogsheads, with 5% in tank to 12.0% alc., the oak component aged 6 months in barrel with batonnage, and 15% of the wine undergoing MLF."
90/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, January 2017 (2013 Vintage)
"A beautifully maturing chardonnay, the fragrant bouquet shows mandarin, pineapple, toasted almond and a hint of vanilla characters. It is ripe, rounded and smooth on the palate with attractive fruit intensity and rounded mouthfeel, nicely framed by juicy acidity. Flavoursome and very easy to enjoy. At its best: now to 2018."
